Step 1: Building a clear and strong foundation for your blogging journey
Before starting let me tell you a greedy fact about blogging that a typical blogger in India earns Rs20,000 – Rs30,000 and a 2-3 years experienced blogger can earn up to Rs2,00,000+. I will not exaggerate the amount to trap you. It is what it is. Let’s start…

Choosing a niche
So before starting into blogging you must be clear with your niche, sub-niche, and type of content. Take your time to think about it. Think about a niche that is less competitive and will be in demand in the future. Let me help you in the selection of all such niches which can be heavily monetized:
- Technology
- Digital Marketing
- Finance and Investment
- Travelling
- Movie and Music
- Health and Fitness
- Relationship & Parenting
- DIY & Crafting
- Cooking & Recipes
- Beauty and Fashion
- Education
All these niches can be heavily monetized (I will tell you the best products too in the next post). Hope you have decided on your niche 🙂 Deciding niche is not everything, that’s where most people fail. They travel in more than two boats and ultimately sink down. Decide your sub-niche too. What is sub-niche?
Our own Example- Technical Sapien posts on sub-niche “Cybersecurity” under the niche “Technology”. In this way, narrow down your niche to a sub-niche. Now you won’t do blogging on your niche, you will do it specifically on your sub-niche. Got it? Fine, if you have decided your niche and sub-niche, let’s head on towards the type of content according to your monetization way.
Choose your niche and sub-niche based on the type of content you will provide. Let me help you with this decision.
For example: If you want to monetize your blog via affiliation then Review blogs and sites will be the best option. If you want to monetize your blog via brand advertisement(leads), then go for a tutorial or article-based blog. There are other categories too, I just gave an idea on “How to think and decide about your niche.” Okay, niche selected? Now let’s get on the platform.
Where to start this blog?
There is a wide selection of platforms to start blogging but I suggest using self-hosted WordPress blog software if you are really serious about a blogging career and generating revenue from it. Let me give you the reason why. Just type any topic on google and check out the results. Mostly, you will get websites either made from scratch or by WordPress. Hardly you will see Blogger, Wix, etc. type of blogging platforms. Why? Because WordPress provides you SEO tools to rank your blog but in free sites, you yourself have to do.
If you aren’t that serious about blogging and money you can use free platforms to gain experience at least. But mark my words, one day you will have to switch, I personally switch to WordPress after 2 blogs on blogger. That’s why for a beginner, who can’t code, WordPress is the best place to start blogging. Husshhh…Now let’s get a domain.
read this before selecting your domain name
- Easy to remember
- Short to type
- Ease in Pronunciation (word of mouth marketing)
- Avoid numbers and symbols
- Avoid personal names
- Think of a unique and cool name like Wild Guns 🙂
- It should represent your niche and type of content
Again, a dilemma to choose between free and paid. You can make either a free WordPress/Blogger website whose domain would look like blablahblah.wordpress.com / blahblahblah.blogspot.com or you can buy a domain and hosting to host your website and made that website using WordPress(if you don’t want to code).
my tip for you
Now here is a tip from my side that will help you in selection: If blogging is your side interest and you don’t have such intention to make money out of it, then you can go for free ones. But if you are really passionate about blogging and want to drive income from it then you should definitely go for domain and hosting. You need hosting for other reasons too, like more space, security, and bandwidth.
I myself bought technicalsapien.com domain and hosting for the next 4 years(longer duration cost you less). It’s under construction and not published yet, it will be a surprise for our community soon.
Another Important TIP: Always buy the domain and hosting from the same platform, which provides WordPress builder too. Here are some of the offers which give you a ton of website hosting options, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, a free SSL certificate, easy WordPress installs, and a free domain for a year.
Hostinger ($2.4/month) – I personally use this one, as its cost and features effective – Claim this offer
Hostgator($2.75/month) – Claim this offer
Bluehost($2.95/month) – Claim this offer
I have provided these suggestions by researched comparisons among top services. So go for it without thinking.
That’s all for today’s post. Now let’s head up towards the tasks you have to complete for the next post.
Tasks to be completed:
- Deciding of niche and sub-niche
- Thinking of a domain name
- Get domain and hosting from the same provider
Till here, it was step 1, now let’s move on to the next steps…
